DUBAI (Kashmir English): Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 4 wickets in the first match of the Asia Cup Super Four stage after a thrilling match.

In the match being played in Dubai, Bangladesh captain Liton Das won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first.

Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 168 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Bangladesh achieved Sri Lanka’s target with one ball to spare in the stipulated 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets.

Bangladesh showed aggressive batting in the beginning in pursuit of the target of 169 runs. Opener Saif Hassan played a brilliant innings of 61 runs off 45 balls, which included 2 fours and 4 sixes.

Captain Liton Das scored 23 runs off 16 balls, while Tohid Haridu aggressively scored 58 runs off 37 balls, which included 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Shamim Hossain remained unbeaten on 14 off 12 balls, while Naseem Ahmed scored one off one ball to strengthen the team’s batting end. Jakir Ali scored 9 off 4 balls and was dismissed by Shanaka, while Mahidi Hassan was dismissed for a duck.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers also put in a brilliant effort. Winindu Hasaranga was the most effective bowler with 2/22 in 4 overs.

Captain Dasan Shanaka took 2/21 in 2.5 overs, keeping the pressure on the Bangladeshi batsmen.

Dusmantha Chimera took 1 for 32 in 4 overs, while Nuwan Thushara took 1 for 42 in 4 overs. Dineth Vilalej gave away 36 runs in 4 overs but took no wickets. Kamindu Mendis gave away 16 runs in an over and took no wickets.

Earlier in the clash between Sri vs Ban, Sri Lankan captain Dasan Shanaka played an aggressive batting and played an unbeaten innings of 64 runs off 37 balls, which included 3 fours and 6 sixes.

Kusal Mendis scored 34 and Patham Nissanka scored 22 runs, but the other batsmen could not show a significant performance.

Mustafizur Rahman was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh, who dismissed 3 players for just 20 runs in 4 overs. Mehidy Hasan took 2 wickets while Taskin Ahmed sent one player to the pavilion.
