COLOMBO (Kashmir English): Defending champions Sri Lanka have named their 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai, with Chamari Athapaththu set to lead the side.
Harshitha Samarawickrama has been named vice-captain of the team. The squad includes a blend of experienced players and emerging talent.
The right-arm pacer Mithali Ayodhya returns to the squad after an impressive performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The 22-year-old, who made her international debut in April, took four wickets during the tournament and finished as Sri Lanka’s second-highest wicket-taker.
Leg-spin all-rounder Dewmi Vihanga has earned her maiden T20I call-up. She has already represented the nation in 12 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and will now have the opportunity to make her mark in the shortest format.
Sri Lanka have also recalled bowler Chethana Vimukthi as they strengthen their options in the bowling department.
Athapaththu and Samarawickrama will form the core of Sri Lanka’s batting line-up, with support expected from experienced campaigners Hasini Perera, Vishmi Gunaratne and Nilakshika Silva.
The squad also included 17-year-old Sanjana Kavindi, who made her T20I debut during a recent series against Pakistan.
Imesha Dulani has also been named in the squad after becoming only the second Sri Lankan woman to score a T20I century. She reached the milestone during the same series against Pakistan.
Sri Lanka have been drawn in Group B alongside Indonesia, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The defending champions will open their Asia Cup campaign against the UAE on August 29 in Dubai, before facing Bangladesh and Indonesia in their two group matches.
