The 41-year-old Tim Paine has been an assistant coach at Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League and has led a Prime Minister’s XI against India and England in the past two years. For his national side, he remained captain in 23 Tests between 2018 and 2020, winning 11 and losing eight.
Sialkot Stallionz auction
Earlier this month, OZ Developers acquired the franchise for an astonishing amount of Rs 1.85 billion in the auction that took place on January 8.
The FKS Group and OZ Developers won the auction for the 7th and 8th Pakistan Super League (PSL) teams with the staggering prices of Rs1.75 billion and Rs1.85 billion, respectively.
The bidders named their franchises after Hyderabad and Sialkot following the completion of the expansion auction ahead of the upcoming season of PSL in 2026.
The bid for the 7th team started with the base price of Rs 1.10 billion, and all 10 qualified bidders competed fiercely for the new team.
The business group owned by Fawad Sarwar emerged as the winner and named the team after Hyderabad, becoming the second franchise from Sindh province.
Similarly, with the base price of Rs 1.70 billion, Oz Developers, owned by Mr Hamza Majeed, successfully acquired the ownership of the eighth PSL team for Rs 1.85 billion.
The winner selected the home city for the franchise from the PCB-approved list that included Faisalabad, Gilgit, Hyderabad, Muzaffarabad, Rawalpindi, and Sialkot.
Hyderabad appoints Gillespie
Another new franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Hyderabad, appointed former head coach of Pakistan, Jason Gillespie, as its head coach.
In April 2024, Jason Gillespie was appointed as the head coach of the Test squad, along with Gary Kirsten, who led the white-ball squad.
In December 2024, he resigned from the position before Pakistan’s two-match Test series in South Africa due to strained relations with the PCB. Now Jason Gillespie will be seen coaching Hyderabad in the PSL starting in March.
