Shah Ghulam Qadir briefs PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif on upcoming AJK elections

LAHORE (Kashmir English): President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Azad Kashmir, Shah Ghulam Qadir, on Friday gave a detailed briefing to the party chief and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the upcoming general elections and the current political situation.

PML-N President Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting of party officials from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) in Lahore. The meeting discussed organizational matters, upcoming general elections preparations, and the performance of the Azad Kashmir government.

Shah Ghulam Qadir, who is also Leader of the Opposition in the AJK Legislative Assembly, formally proposed to Nawaz Sharif to include Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.

Qadir took the position that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir also deserve shares in federal resources so that development projects, economic stability, and improvement of infrastructure can be further strengthened.

Nawaz Sharif assured to speak to his brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, regarding the NFC Award and said that the matter will be seriously considered.

The former premier informed the party leadership that he will pay a two-day visit to Azad Kashmir next month, which will include various meetings, rallies, and public relations campaign activities.

Nawaz Sharif termed the upcoming Azad Kashmir elections as a “referendum” and said that these elections will be an opportunity to gain public trust and stamp the public’s seal on the policies of the PML-N.

He also directed to make the organizational structure more active, increase contact with the workers, and prioritize the resolution of public problems.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming election strategy, possible alliances, candidate panels, and important points of the election campaign.

The leadership of the PML-N in Azad Kashmir assured that the party is fully energized and will contest the upcoming elections vigorously. The meeting concluded in a pleasant atmosphere, and it was agreed to hold more consultative meetings soon.
