ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A severe cold wave has started to affect the country, due to which a significant drop in temperature is being recorded in various areas.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert in view of severe cold across the country, while a special alert has been imposed in the northern areas and Balochistan.
According to the NDMA, the weather is likely to remain extremely cold in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. The agency says that the cold weather will also persist in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which may affect normal life.
There is also a fear of damage to crops due to severe weather, for which farmers have been instructed to ensure safety measures so that possible losses can be avoided.
On the other hand, the weather has become colder in the capital city of Karachi today due to cold winds. The intensity of the cold was felt due to the cold winds blowing at night and early in the morning.
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Karachi was recorded at 14 degrees Celsius, while the current temperature is 16 degrees Celsius.
Along with the cold weather, the air pollution situation in Karachi has also been declared alarming. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), Karachi is in fifth position in the list of the most polluted cities in the world.
In view of this situation, citizens, especially children, the elderly, and respiratory patients, have been instructed to take precautionary measures to avoid possible health problems.
Meanwhile, cold weather has also set in in the city of Lahore. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in Lahore has been recorded at 7 degrees Celsius. According to the weather report, the weather in the city will remain cold and dry, with no possibility of rain announced.
Due to the ongoing cold wave in different parts of the country, citizens are being advised to take precautionary measures, wear warm clothes, and avoid unnecessary travel, so as to be protected from the effects of severe weather.
