ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has refuted any suggestion that Pakistani Rupee (PKR) currency notes that include a pen marking or handwriting will no longer be legal tender effective July 1, 2025.

The central bank reported that these media items contain false information and are misleading the public. SBP Chief Spokesperson Noor Ahmed said, “SBP has issued no such notification.”

The statement from the SBP comes in response to a fake notice that has circulated on social media and several new platforms, which supposes that marked notes will lose their status as legal tender after the next fiscal year.

The spokesperson added that currency notes are a national asset and should be handled with care to maintain their quality, but noted that if a note is marked in pen, there is still no policy in place to stop people from using these notes.

In another development, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has announced the introduction of the E-Challan system across Azad Kashmir.

According to the press release, the AJK police Department has signed an agreement with JS-Zindigi Bank, a commercial bank, to launch an E-Challan service.

The signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was held at the Central Police Office, Muzaffarabad, in which the CEO of JS-Zindigi bank and senior officials of the Police Department participated.

With the introduction of the online system, manual challan submission will be abolished, and fines can be easily deposited through Zindigi, mobile accounts, bank accounts, and debit/credit cards.

Under the agreement, the bank will provide the necessary gadgets for E Challan to the Azad Kashmir Traffic Police along with the necessary training to the ticketing staff (wardens) to make this system successful.

“Through this modern system, not only will the citizens be provided with convenience, but it will also be possible to ensure transparency in the process,” the press release read.
