BIEJIENG (Kashmir English): Viewed by millions worldwide through social media, a five-decade-old presence in robot engineering takes an extraordinary leap beyond the realm of practicality, playing tennis in the background as a humanoid robot.

The robot evinces a deft instinct with response time in milliseconds and immense mettle considering fatigue. In fact, in the clip, it not only faces and stickers away high-speed shots but also hits strong deliveries back in a matter of fractions of inches.

It is GALBOT’s debut video that introduces LATENT to play whole-body tennis as a robot that can do it for real. According to the company, LATENT can last for long, keeping up with long rallies and striking balls accurately, but retaining that humanlike grace.

World’s first! A robotics team from Beijing has developed the world’s first fully autonomous humanoid tennis robot, which can rapidly adjust its footwork and positioning to execute swings.

The LATENT model is considered more than a good aping machine. Its level of decision-making power enables the machine to adapt in real time to actual game situations.

His social media performance has brought tons of enthusiastic commentary as people express their awe at the talent of the robot. One user boldly acclaimed the level of LATENT’s tennis-holding skill and insinuated that they could be interesting to watch play with professionals—something for which there seems to be plans in the future for the company.

Elsewhere, LATENT’s limitations determine it to be physically capable of handling tricky shots and, therefore, coming to surpass humans in no time.

The idea was received with two arguments: On one side, these were people who saw technology that would conquer humans; on the other, they were people considering it an excellent tool toward enriched training, touting the advanced tennis-ball machine, but true to its wild capabilities.
