MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Muzaffarabad’s Additional Deputy Commissioner issued new chicken, vegetable rates and price regulations for vital food products consisting of poultry alongside vegetables and fruits, which became effective on April 15.
The new rates will start to achieve price stabilization and consumer relief objectives in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmirs (AJK) market prices.
According to the official notification, live broiler chicken has been fixed at Rs430 per kilogram, while broiler chicken meat will sell for Rs560 per kg.
Desi chicken meat is priced higher at Rs1,050 per kg, with golden chicken set at Rs850 per kg. For eggs, the rates vary by weight, smaller eggs (40-50g) cost Rs210 per dozen, while larger ones (51-65g) are priced at Rs230 per dozen.
The price list includes detailed rates for vegetables. Common items like tomatoes and local potatoes will sell for Rs90 and Rs70 per kg, respectively.
Onions are similarly priced at Rs70 per kg. Other vegetables range from Rs25 per kg for spinach to Rs510 per kg for China garlic, with most seasonal produce available between Rs50-200 per kg.
Fruit prices show significant variation, with bananas at Rs230 per dozen and apples ranging from Rs270 to Rs440 per kg, depending on the variety.
Citrus fruits like kinnow are priced at Rs410 per dozen, while berries and melons fall between Rs90-210 per kg.
Local authorities have mandated shopkeepers to exhibit official price lists publicly in their businesses. The goal of displaying official price lists aims to create transparency by enabling consumers to check their accurate billing.
The authorities have issued clear warnings about taking severe action against stores that disobey the official price requirements.
These price controls come as part of regular market monitoring efforts to prevent overcharging, especially for essential commodities that form the basis of daily nutrition for most households.
The updated rates reflect current market conditions while attempting to balance affordability for consumers with fair returns for sellers.
