ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Serious allegations have surfaced regarding attempts by Indian intelligence agencies to influence the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and religious groups through financial incentives in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In an interview with Kashmir Digital anchor Mujtaba Butt, Vice Chairman of Friends of Kashmir International and social activist, Abdul Hameed Lone, shared information regarding Indian agencies’ attempt to weaken Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), termed the matter “highly sensitive and dangerous.”
Lone claimed that during his visit to the United States via Dubai, he encountered an individual through one of his friends, who allegedly introduced himself as a Commissioner of India’s intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), in Srinagar in Indian occupied Kashmir.
Abdul Hameed said that the Indian official had detailed knowledge of his background and activities.
“At first, I was shocked to see what he was saying and whether a RAW officer was really addressing me. I thought it was a joke, but as he kept talking and the truth began to dawn on me, I came to know that he was really a RAW officer,” Lone told the interviewer.
He alleged that the RAW officer offered financial incentives and other benefits, including travel and property opportunities, in exchange for cooperation.
“Answering my question about why you are so kind? he said, you have a big influence inside Pakistan, you are quite influential there, your role at the political and social level is very important,” Lone added.
Lone further claimed that he was asked to facilitate the transfer of funds to certain groups, including the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), and influence individuals in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir to spread an anti-Pakistan narrative.
“During the conversation, the RAW officer inquired about the Awami Action Committee and Shaukat Nawaz Mir, to which I replied that I see him on social media and TV, but I have not met Mir in person,” according to Abdul Hameed.
On which, the RAW officer asked me to deliver money to the JAAC, Lone said. “If you deliver Rs10 million to the Awami Action Committee, we are ready to give you Rs4 million,” he quoted an Indian official as saying.
Abdul Hameed Lone further revealed that the officer offered him that if he delivered the same amount of money to the Shia people in Gilgit-Baltistan, he would be enriched.
According to his statement, the alleged offer also included efforts to influence social media narratives and target specific individuals through online campaigns.
