ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A new powerful spell of rain is likely to hit parts of the country until August 5, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
It has issued instructions to relevant institutions to stay alert. Rain was recorded in several areas of Azad Kashmir, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad on Tuesday night.
According to the Met office, monsoon winds coming from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal will affect upper and central regions, while a strong system of western winds may also grip most parts of the country from August 1.
According to the forecast, intermittent rain with thunder is likely in Kashmir until August 5, while heavy to very heavy rain is expected at some locations.
Heavy rain with strong winds and thunder has been predicted until August 4 in Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, and most districts in Punjab.
South Punjab weather outlook
According to the meteorological department, rains are forecast from July 31 to August 3 in South Punjab districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Vehari, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur.
Strong winds, thunder, and heavy rain at some places are likely in most districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa from July 29 to August 5, while moderate to heavy rain is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan from July 29 to August 6.
Rain and heavy rain at some locations are likely in eastern and southern areas of Balochistan from the night of July 31 to August 3, while rain with thunder is expected in various districts of Sindh from July 31 to August 2.
The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a risk of urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad from July 30 to August 4.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a risk of landslides in the mountainous areas of upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir from July 30 to August 5.
There is a also risk of flash flooding in the mountain streams of Azad Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Northeast Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Northeast Balochistan.
