Rain, heavy snowfall increases cold in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Rain and heavy snowfall has been lashing the beautiful tourist destination of Azad Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, and other upper areas, due to which the intensity of cold has increased in the entire region.

The cold winds blowing in the mountainous areas have further lowered the temperature, making the weather pleasant but quite cold.

According to local sources, intermittent rain and snowfall are being experienced in the upper areas of Neelum Valley, including Kel, Sharda, Janoi Grace Valley, and Taubat.

The Meteorological Department says that due to a new series of westerly winds, there was a possibility of rain in Azad Kashmir and northern areas and snowfall on the mountains, the effects of which are now becoming noticeable, due to which tourists eager to see snowfall have turned to Kashmir and are arriving there in large numbers to enjoy the beautiful weather.

NDMA Issues Alert

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued an alert regarding the weather conditions in different parts of the country during the coming days.

According to the NDMA, rain is likely in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan from March 9 to 12. Wind and light rain have been predicted in the Potohar region, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Mianwali from March 9 to 12. In addition, hail is also likely in the upper areas of Islamabad and Potohar, which may add to the cold weather.

Talking about other parts of Pakistan, thunderstorms are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan in the next 24 hours. Islamabad, Murree, and Galyat are also likely to receive light rain on March 10 and 11.

Light rain with gusty winds is also expected in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Bannu, Buner, Peshawar, and Swabi till March 11, which may affect agricultural and daily activities.

The weather will remain hot and dry in most parts of Punjab during the day; however, light rain may occur in Rawalpindi and Attock at night, while the weather will remain hot in most districts of Sindh and Balochistan.

In view of the bad weather, the administration has directed travelers and tourists to travel carefully on mountain roads as snowfall may cause slippage.
