LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Punjab government on Wednesday announced three-day public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 from March 19.

According to the notification, the Eid holidays will be observed on March 19, 20, and 21 across Punjab.

“The Government of the Punjab shall observe 19th, 20th & 21st March, 2026 (Thursday, Friday & Saturday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, 2026 in the province of Punjab,” it stated.

With Sunday being a regular weekly holiday and a public holiday on March 23 related to Pakistan Day, the citizens will enjoy the extended five-day holiday period from March 19 to 23.

The government has already declared a public holiday on Monday, March 23, in observance of Pakistan Day.

The announcement is expected to facilitate travel and allow people to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with family and friends.

AJK govt Eid holidays

The Azad Kashmir government has announced two holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr 2026.

According to the notification issued, the Eid holidays will be held on Friday, March 20 and 21, 2026.

“The President, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, has been pleased to accord approval for observance of public holidays from 20th to 21st March, 2026 (Friday & Saturday) on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr,” the notification stated.

Federal govt Eid holidays

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially declared Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, as public holidays across Pakistan to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday.

The notification serves as a continuation of the earlier holiday circular from January 19.

“In continuation of Cabinet Division’s circular dated 19 January 2026 specifying public and optional holidays for the year 2026, the Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 20th and 21st March (Friday and Saturday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, both for offices observing 5-day and 6-day working weeks,” read the notification.

The decision ensures a unified break for all government employees, applying to offices that observe both five-day and six-day working weeks.

The notification effectively declares a four-day-long weekend for the citizens of the federal capital.
