KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Saturday, August 9, across the province to mark the annual Urs of the Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

The government has issued a formal notification in this regard.

The notification stated that “all offices, Autonomous, Semi-Autonomous Bodies, Corporations, and Local Councils under the Administrative Control of the Government of Sindh, except essential services, will remain closed on August 9, 2025.”

The provincial Minister for Culture has officially invited Governor Sindh to inaugurate the Urs celebrations, signalling the importance of the event in Sindh’s cultural and spiritual calendar.

Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, held annually at his shrine in Bhit Shah in Sindh’s Matiari District. It features Sufi music, poetry recitals, literary gatherings, and prayers, celebrating the timeless message of peace, love, and tolerance preached by the great mystic poet.
