ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned users, especially employees of government and private organizations, of the growing risks of cyber fraud.

In a video message released on social media, the PTA said that cyber criminals are constantly targeting users through phishing emails, which aim to steal login details, infect systems with ransomware, or gain unauthorized access.

According to the PTA, fraudsters often resort to threats, lures, or fake warnings so that the user panics and immediately clicks on the link or provides sensitive information.

The authority has directed users to take precautionary measures to stay safe from cyber fraud, including verifying the identity and email address of the email sender, checking the file extension of the attachment, scanning the attachment before opening it, and logging out after using the email.

The PTA has further said that official email should not be used for personal or non-official purposes, the original URL must be verified before clicking on any link, and the email password or OTP should not be shared with anyone or sent via email.

The authority has also strictly prohibited users from clicking on unknown or short links, saying that being cautious is the only effective means of protection against cyber attacks.
