KARACHI (Kashmir English): President Asif Ali Zardari has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in isolation, according to an official statement issued by the President House on Wednesday. The confirmation came after his personal physician, Dr Asim Hussain, conducted a series of medical tests that established the diagnosis.

Dr Hussain stated that President Zardari had been experiencing health issues, following which he was shifted from Nawabshah to a private hospital in Karachi for further evaluation. He confirmed that a team of medical experts is closely monitoring the president’s condition and ensuring round-the-clock care.

“The medical team is ensuring continuous observation to manage his condition effectively,” Dr Hussain said, adding that the president has been advised to remain in isolation and take complete rest to aid his recovery.

Due to his health condition, President Zardari will not be attending the rally scheduled for April 4, according to sources. Sources confirmed his doctors believe he needs additional prolonged rest which diminishes the possibility that he will attend public events.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon denied baseless rumors suggesting the president would be sent to Dubai for medical care. “President Zardari’s health is improving, and he will recover soon,” Memon said in a separate statement, reassuring the public that there was no need for overseas treatment.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reached out to President Zardari via phone, inquiring about his well-being and offering prayers for his swift recovery. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori reached out to Dr Asim Hussain to convey his worries about the president’s health situation and deliver his wishes for a swift recovery.

First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari made a journey from Larkana to Karachi to provide support to her ill father. She immediately went to the hospital after her arrival to sit beside him.

The president’s medical team expects a positive recovery outcome from COVID-19, and additional health information will be shared in the upcoming days.
