ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has intensified diplomatic efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue and halt ongoing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In recent days, he has met with several international diplomats, including the European Union Ambassador to Pakistan and a delegation of American diplomats, urging them to play a stronger role in addressing the situation.
Continuing his outreach, President Chaudhry held a detailed meeting today with Austria’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Mrs Andrea Wicke, at the Kashmir House in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the AJK President highlighted Austria’s strong record on human rights and called on the country to contribute to the resolution of the Kashmir conflict and to help stop the ongoing violations by Indian forces in the occupied region.
President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry said that Austria has equal relations with both Pakistan and India, therefore, Austria and other European countries should work together to mediate between Pakistan and India on the Kashmir issue so that lasting peace can be established in South Asia.
He stated that Austria maintains balanced relations with both Pakistan and India, positioning it as a potential mediator between the two nuclear neighbours.
The AJK President also urged Austria to work with other European nations to support the right of self-determination for the people of Kashmir in line with United Nations resolutions.
He emphasised that international efforts are essential to end the ongoing Indian atrocities and restore the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people and the Kashmir issue resolution.
Ambassador Andrea Wicke praised the ceasefire reached by Pakistan and India, now seeing it as a “positive step.” She assured all parties that Austria would do all it could to foster peace in its neighbourhood.
Matters of mutual concern and the regional situation were also discussed in the meeting, confirming that discussion and cooperation by countries are still vital in the Kashmir issue resolution.
