MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): President Azad Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, while addressing a reception in New York, urged Kashmiris in the United States (US) to intensify efforts for global awareness on resolving the Kashmir issue, condemning India’s military presence in IIOJK and calling for international intervention.

President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has called on Kashmiris living in the United States to step up their efforts in raising global awareness about the critical need for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue, which he cautioned has reached an alarming level.

Speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by Dr Shahzad in New York, the AJK president highlighted the deteriorating political and human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir (IIOJK). He implied that the heavy deployment of Indian military forces in the region was the immediate driver of continued violence and bloodshed.

“With nearly nine lakh Indian troops stationed across every corner of the disputed territory, life has become unbearable for its people,” President Chaudhry stated. He blamed the Indian forces for committing war crimes and engaging in overall oppression.

Despite these challenges, he declared that the Indian government has failed in its attempts to crush the Kashmiri people’s continuing struggle for freedom. He praised Kashmiris for their uncompromising resilience in the face of state-sponsored brutality and made it clear that military force would never succeed in muting their demands for justice.

The AJK president also paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people, voicing confidence that their effort and the ultimate sacrifices of martyrs would not be useless.

The decades of fighting for self-determination led him to strongly criticize world powers for their delayed response to the Kashmir dispute. The leader accused international powers of showing deep dedication to settling world conflicts yet totally ignoring Kashmir.

President Chaudhry called for decisive international action to stop the continuous violence and human rights violations against people in IIOJK while stressing this region required immediate foreign intervention for peace and justice to emerge.
