PPP Senator Taj Haider passes away, his wife confirms

KARACHI (Kashmir English): Pakistan People Party (PPP) senior leader and Senator Taj Haider passed away in Karachi on Tuesday following a brief illness, his wife confirmed.

His family confirmed that Hiader, 83, had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.

“My husband, PPP Central General Secretary Senator Taj Haider, has passed away. Details regarding the funeral and burial will be shared later,” his wife said.

Taj Haider was one of the ideological leaders and founding members of the Pakistan Peoples Party while also serving as its General Secretary for a long time.

He was born on 8 March 1942 in British India, and his family migrated to Pakistan after the partition in 1947.

A leftist by ideology, Haider became a loyal supporter of the PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

The veteran politician was a mathematician by profession who also played a pivotal role in the beginning years of Pakistan’s nuclear project.

The senator also played a significant role in the arts and literature as he wrote multiple plays and dramas for PTV. He displayed courageous resistance to dictatorships, supporting peaceful dissent against them.
