ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Islamabad police arrested a man on Monday for allegedly harassing and trying to kidnap social media influencer Samiya Hijab.

The action was taken upon her complaint and video statement, according to a police spokesperson’s statement.

A case was lodged at her complaint in the capital’s Shalimar Police Station under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 392 (punishment for robbery), 500 (punishment for defamation), 509 and 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The suspect had been stalking her for a couple of days, the social media influencer said in the first information report.

She further said that on Sunday at 6:30 pm, a bid was made to forcibly push her out of the house

“Today’s incident got worse when he tried to kidnap me forcibly from my home when I was going back with his gifts. This comes under the offenses of abduction, harassment, and assault in the eyes of the law. In support of evidence, I have CCTV footage,” she was also quoted as saying in the FIR.

Samiya expressed gratitude to the Islamabad police in a second video posted on her Instagram account and added that the suspect had intimidated her into withdrawing her complaint.

Earlier in June, the Islamabad police announced that they had detained the prime suspect of the murder case of 17-year-old social media personality Sana Yousaf, a day after she was gunned down at home.
