MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): President Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) AJK Shah Ghulam Qadir has demanded that the Azad Kashmir government should ensure the construction of bunkers along the Line of Control (LoC) to protect the population from Indian aggression.

He drew the attention of the Legislative Assembly through a calling attention notice, stating that the Azad Kashmir government should ensure the construction of bunkers to protect the population from Indian shelling, and dedicate its resources to the victims of the LoC.

He further said that the matter should also be discussed with the government of Pakistan.

It is to be mentioned that during the recent Indian shelling, in addition to the loss of human lives on the Line of Control, properties were also damaged.

In Neelum Valley, life remained paralyzed for 20 years as a result of Indian firing.

The government constructed bunkers in some areas, which have become dilapidated and need to be improved, Qadir added.

Law Minister Mian Abdul Waheed endorsed Shah Ghulam Qadir’s concern and said that in the past, 85 villages in Neelum Valley were affected by Indian shelling, and 72,000 people migrated, which, he added, severely affected the economy of Neelum Valley.

The government built the bunkers to provide protection, but their condition has become precarious. This matter has now been brought to the notice of the Leader of the House, and it will also be discussed with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, he said.

Community bunkers are a necessity

Former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan emphasized the need for community bunkers to provide safe shelters for the population located on the LoC in Neelum, Leepa, and Chakothi, stating that community bunkers are a necessity in the affected areas.

He added that the Azad Kashmir government should provide its resources for this purpose.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Dewan Ghulam Mohiuddin participated in the Legislative Assembly session after a long time and expressed his views.

He emphasized ensuring employment opportunities for the youth. Assembly members welcomed Dewan Ghulam Mohiuddin by thumping their desks in the House.

Dewan Ghulam Mohiuddin is a member of the Assembly from Lahore and had been underground due to cases during the protests against the arrest of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan.

His presence in the House after approximately two years was enthusiastically welcomed by fellow members.
