MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In a surprising political twist, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) parliamentary party has defied its central leadership’s directive and refused to vote for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate in the election for the new Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, sources revealed.
According to reliable party insiders, the PML-N parliamentary members have categorically rejected the proposal to support the PPP in the ongoing bid for an in-house change in the AJK Assembly.
Earlier, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Senator Rana Sanaullah, announced that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to support Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the no-confidence motion against AJK Prime Minister Anwarul Haq.
Speaking to the media alongside federal minister Ahsan Iqbal and PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira, the PML-N leader said that his party will not be part of the government formed after the no-confidence motion and will sit on the opposition benches.
Additionally, Ahsan Iqbal, while talking to the media, said that the current setup in AJK has failed to meet the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. “For our commitment to the people of Kashmir, we have to change the current government to provide them with good governance.”
The federal minister further said that a consensus has been reached between the PPP and the PML-N to change the current setup through a no-confidence motion.
Moreover, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Azad Kashmir has also summoned a key meeting in Islamabad today to discuss the political turmoil in AJK, including the no-confidence motion against PTI-backed Prime Minister Anwarul Haq, sources added.
The leadership is expected to finalize its strategy to counter recent political developments and to determine the party’s formal response.
The central leadership will also outline the party’s next course of action in the wake of defections and political realignments in the AJK Assembly.
