MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy rainfall and hailstorm in Azad Kashmir and other areas of the country from tonight.

In a weather forecast, the Met Office said that a westerly wave will affect the upper and central parts of the country from today till April 20.

PMD warned that the hailstorm and lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels during the period.

Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper/Central Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, while heavy rain/hailstorm is likely at a few places on Friday and Saturday.

As per details, strong winds and heavy rain wreaked havoc in Muzaffarabad and other parts of Azad Kashmir, with reports of several trees being uprooted.

However, no untoward incident has been reported so far.

Earlier, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) warned that due to the weather system, some areas of Azad Kashmir may be affected by landslides and floods.

SDMA has issued an alert, asking the people of the Neelam Valley and especially tourists to be careful while traveling, avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous areas during rain.

For the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country, while very hot in southern parts, PMD said.

“Rain-windstorm/thunderstorm occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, and Gilgit Baltistan,” the advisory added.
