ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and thunderstorms across the northern regions of the country with snowfall anticipated in higher-altitude areas like Neelum Valley.
In its daily weather bulletin, the PMD stated, “Rain, wind, or thunderstorms, along with snowfall over high mountains, are expected at isolated locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and upper Punjab.”
According to the department, a shallow westerly system is currently influencing the upper parts of the country. While most areas will experience dry and partly cloudy conditions, rain is expected in several cities over the next two days.
PMDs rain forecast for 14-15 March
Several parts of Balochistan are likely to receive showers, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Mastung, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chagai, Nushki, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Harnai, Zhob, and Sherani.
The cities of Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan and Multan in Punjab are expected to receive rain. Rain is expected to fall in Faisalabad as well as Lahore and Gujranwala together with Sheikhupura Sahiwal Pakpattan and Khanewal.
The regions of Kashmore and Jacobabad together with Shikarpur and Larkana are predicted to receive rainfall in Sindh province.
Weather over the past 24 hours has been rainy throughout the country. The northern parts of Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) together with Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad and Pothohar region encountered partly cloudy skies along with occasional light rain, wind and thunderstorm occurrences on Tuesday.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area of Cherat had accumulated 14mm while Upper Dir had collected 12mm of rainfall yesterday. The meteorological stations in Muzaffarabad measured 7mm of rainfall and both Murree in Punjab and the capital of Islamabad received 4mm and 3mm of rain respectively yesterday, and the areas of Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan received 5mm of rain yet Nokkundi in Balochistan only got 1mm.
Residents are advised to dress warmly, especially in higher-altitude areas, and carry umbrellas in regions expecting showers. Travellers to Neelum Valley and other high-altitude areas should remain cautious of road closures or landslides in case of snow showers or rain. Tourists are encouraged to stay safe and plan their activities accordingly.
Authorities require residents to check weather predictions and execute safety measures when a moving disturbance enters their geographic region.
