ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has formally advised the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to appoint Justice Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry as a permanent judge of the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The prime minister’s advice was issued in accordance with the constitutional and legal framework that governs judicial appointments in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
Earlier, a three-member panel was formed to fill the vacant post of judge in the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and sent it to the Chairman Kashmir Council and Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
According to reliable sources, the names of eminent legal experts Khalid Yousuf, Sheikh Masood and Raja Sajjad were included in this panel.
According to sources, the preparation of the panel has been done strictly in accordance with the constitutional and legal requirements and the judicial experience, legal expertise and professional services of the candidates included in it have been taken into account.
The advice will now be evaluated by the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and an official notification is expected to be issued once approved.
The measure is considered part of a larger attempt to strengthen judicial institutions and maintain the rule of law in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
