MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): PM Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq on Wednesday allocated Rs1 billion to enhance the region’s police force by improving training, infrastructure, and equipment to ensure security and stability.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq on Wednesday announced a significant allocation of Rs1 billion to enhance the professional capabilities of the region’s police force, acknowledging their role in maintaining peace alongside the armed forces. Speaking as the chief guest at the passing-out parade of the 60th Recruit Course at the Police Lines Ground, he cautioned against external attempts to spread discord among the youth through fifth-generation warfare.
“Our enemy is cunning and deceitful, aiming to create instability. While they do not dare to cross the borders with malicious intent, they attempt to incite unrest through political turmoil. Every responsible citizen must recognise this and play their part in countering it,” he stated.
The AJK premier reaffirmed the government’s commitment to dialogue and rational discourse but warned that any threats to state security would be dealt with firmly. He distinguished between defensive and occupying forces, asserting that while the Pakistan Armed Forces are dedicated to national defence, the people of AJK fully support them.
Highlighting the proud history and promising future of the police force, he assured that the government would continue to provide necessary resources for recruitment, infrastructure, and modern equipment. “I understand that improving the police force requires at least Rs4 billion. However, in the first phase, Rs1 billion will be allocated this fiscal year for housing, training schools, arms, transport, and equipment,” he announced.
Referring to last year’s protests led by the Joint Public Action Committee in May and December, he commended the police for exercising restraint. He also praised Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rana Abdul Jabbar for the swift formation of the Anti-Riot Force, calling it a crucial step. Addressing the newly inducted personnel, he expressed confidence that they would uphold their oath throughout their service.
He emphasised that the newly trained officers would exercise their authority strictly within legal boundaries and warned that anyone attempting to incite unrest would face consequences. Discussing the plans, he highlighted the goal of setting a modern Counter-Terrorism Department and advanced training centres to improve investigative abilities. Expressing gratitude to PM Haq for supporting the force despite financial challenges, the IGP reassured that the police department would keep trying to meet public expectations.
He also advised that the residents should ignore false information they encounter on social media but should focus on making constructive contributions for national development. Audience members gave their applause while the Anti-Riot Force displayed contemporary techniques for leading protests as their presentation concluded. Outstanding contributors received excellence certificates together with monetary rewards from the prime minister who concluded the ceremony.
