ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced full support for journalists Abrar Shah and Mujtaba Butt from Azad Kashmir.

PFUJ President Rana Azeem said the organization has also issued a formal resolution and a video statement expressing solidarity with the two journalists.

He gave a 48-hour ultimatum to Shaukat Nawaz Mir, demanding that he immediately withdraw his application and offer an unconditional apology to the journalist.

Rana Azeem warned that if the demands are not met within the given time, journalists across the country will launch nationwide protests.

He added that the media community will strongly resist any attempt to target journalists or suppress their rights.

Moreover, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned the registration of an FIR by Shukat Nawaz Mir against journalists Mujtaba Butt and Abrar Haider, calling it a “nefarious attempt” to suppress freedom of the press.

In a statement, PFUJ said that filing cases against journalists to silence their voices is unacceptable under any circumstances and runs counter to the principles of free media.

The union warned that the journalistic community across Pakistan will firmly resist such actions, terming them as attempts to curb independent reporting.

PFUJ further stated that if its concerns are not addressed, journalists nationwide, including its members, will take to the streets in protest.

The organization also emphasized that any move to suppress truth and justice or attack press freedom will be met with strong resistance from the media community.
