Petrol prices likely to drop from September 1, Check expected rates inside

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Petrol prices in Pakistan are set to decrease from September 1, 2025 with a drop of as much as Rs3.13 per litre.

Sources said the petrol price might decrease by 61 paisas per litre, whereas high-speed diesel might get a larger cut of Rs3.13 per litre. Kerosene oil is expected to be down by Rs1.57 a litre, and light diesel can be cut by Rs2.61 per litre. Sources have confirmed that the first estimates on petroleum product revisions have been finalised.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will forward its working on 31 August, after which the final approval shall be granted by the Prime Minister. Once approved, petrol prices and other fuels such as diesel shall witness a significant reduction from the beginning of September.

The federal government earlier, on August 16, 2025, rolled out new petrol and diesel prices for the fortnight ahead. As per an announcement made by the Ministry of Finance, the cost of petrol will not be increased and will continue to stand at Rs264.61 per litre, while high-speed diesel has been decreased by Rs12.84 per litre to Rs272.99.

The announcement also mentioned that the cost of kerosene oil has been decreased by Rs7.19 per litre and will now stand at Rs178.27, while light diesel has decreased by Rs8.20 per litre to Rs162.37.

Apart from this, the freight charge on diesel has also been raised by Rs. 0.20 per litre to Rs. 6.24 per litre. In the case of petrol, the levy has gone up from Rs. 75.52 to Rs. 78.02 per litre.

Sources further reveal that a Rs. 2.50 per litre climate support levy has been levied upon petrol and diesel. The dealers’ margin for petrol and diesel has been fixed at Rs. 8.64 per litre, while the distributors’ margin is Rs. 7.87 per litre. Sales tax rate upon petrol and diesel has been set at zero.
