LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is exploring the possibility of including Bangladesh in its upcoming T20I series with Australia as part of preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2025.

Originally scheduled as a bilateral series between Pakistan and Australia, the PCB now wants to turn it into a tri-nation tournament. Discussions are underway with relevant cricketing authorities, and initial responses from Bangladesh are said to be positive.

According to sources, the PCB believes this move would offer all participating teams valuable match practice before the global event. With the T20 World Cup fast approaching, the board aims to ensure that the national team gets enough high-quality competitive exposure.

Pakistan is currently scheduled to host the Aussies for three T20Is in February ahead of the World Cup, with both teams using the series to fine-tune their preparations. According to sources within the BCB, preliminary conversations have already taken place with the PCB regarding the potential inclusion of Bangladesh.

“There has been informal communication from Pakistan’s end regarding a tri-nation series with Australia. No formal proposal has been received yet, but the discussions are promising,” a BCB official stated.

The PCB had earlier used a similar strategy before this year’s Champions Trophy, inviting New Zealand and South Africa before the start of the tournament. Cricket Australia has also often used subcontinental tours as part of its ICC event preparations, and a competition against two teams familiar with tougher surfaces could change its mind about rescheduling the series.

If greenlit, the tri-series would feature Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia playing each other twice, followed by a final between the top two sides, offering seven games in total.

This development comes as part of the PCB’s broader strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s preparation and performance in global tournaments. The board is expected to finalize details in the coming weeks, depending on the availability of venues, team schedules, and broadcast arrangements.

If successful, the tri-series is likely to be held in Pakistan, with multiple T20I matches between the three sides. PCB hopes this initiative will not only benefit the teams but also enhance cricket’s excitement and visibility in the lead-up to the World Cup.

Cricket enthusiasts across Pakistan have welcomed the news, appreciating the PCB’s proactive efforts to improve the team’s chances through more competitive cricket. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting an official announcement confirming Bangladesh’s participation.

As the cricketing calendar gets tighter, the PCB continues to push for opportunities that support player development, international exposure, and better results on the world stage.
