MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The recent joint statement by India and Afghanistan declaring the state of Jammu and Kashmir an internal matter of India has drawn strong protest from the Kashmiri people across the world, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chairman of Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, has sent a formal protest letter to the Afghan Ambassador in Islamabad, terming the move as regrettable and worrisome.
The letter states that the stance of India and Afghanistan is not only contrary to historical facts and international laws, but is also a clear violation of the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, which recognize Jammu and Kashmir as an international dispute and grant its people the right to self-determination.
Uzair Ahmed Ghazali said that it is very regrettable that a brotherly Islamic country like Afghanistan, which itself has been a victim of external aggression for a long time, is today supporting India’s misleading and false narrative.
He said that this approach has rubbed salt in the wounds of the Kashmiri people, who have made countless sacrifices for their freedom and right to self-determination.
The letter issued by the Pasban-e-Hurriyat clearly states that Jammu and Kashmir is not an internal matter of India but a recognized international dispute.
India’s calling it an internal matter is a clear violation of international law, while Afghanistan’s support for this position is against the principles of impartial diplomacy and the demands of Islamic brotherhood.
The letter demands that the Afghan government clarify this unjust position, withdraw its statement, and clarify its position in support of the right of self-determination of the people of Kashmir, as the Kashmiri people always expect from brotherly Islamic countries.
Uzair Ahmad Ghazali said that the leadership of Afghanistan should review its policy, keeping in mind Islamic values, mutual respect, and historical relations, so that it does not become a part of any Indian narrative that is against the human rights and freedom of the people of Kashmir.
He said that the Kashmiri people are waiting for the support of countries, people, and organizations around the world for freedom, justice, and the right to self-determination.
He said that the people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir hope that the OIC and Islamic countries, especially Afghanistan, will play a positive role in resolving the Kashmir issue.
