MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A protest demonstration was held against India in Muzaffarabad under the auspices of Pasban-e-Hurriyat in connection with International Women’s Day on Sunday.
A large participation of Kashmiri women was witnessed in the protest against Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.
Kashmiri women marched on the main highway of the city while holding black flags. Protesters chanted slogans against the Indian army.
They chanted “Stop, stop, stop atrocities against Kashmiri women”, “Indian occupiers, leave Jammu and Kashmir”.
The rally, held against India and in favour of Kashmiri women, was led by Mehnaz Qureshi, Amna Saleem, Tahira Qureshi, Umm Sara, and other women leaders.
Protesters demanded immediate release of Kashmiri women prisoners. Slogans for the release of Aasiya Andrabi, Fahmida Sofi, and Naheeda Nasreen were also heard on the occasion.
The Indian army is using violence against women as a weapon of war, said Mehnaz Qureshi of Pasban-e-Hurriyat Women’s Wing.
Indian war crimes
“Today, we demand disciplinary action against Indian soldiers for war crimes against Kashmiri women. We demand the release of Kashmiri women imprisoned in Indian jails.”
She said the international community should play its role in protecting the rights of Kashmiri women.
“Women in occupied Kashmir are forced to live in an atmosphere of fear and terror.”
Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Amna Saleem said, “We pay tribute to the struggle for freedom of Kashmiri women”.
Tahira Qureshi said human rights organizations should take notice of the atrocities against Kashmiri women.
