ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), inflation, as measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), decreased by 0.87 percent on a year-on-year basis for the week ended March 6, 2025.

According to the report published by Topline Securities, this historic point has been achieved after almost seven years. For the first time in the last seven years, Pakistan’s inflation rate has turned negative.

The year-on-year trend indicates a drop in prices for essential items, including Onions by 64.92 percent, Tomatoes by 57.05 percent, Wheat Flour by 36.81 percent, and Chilies Powder by 20.00 percent.

Price cuts are also recorded for Electricity Charges for Q1 at 18.92 percent, Tea Lipton at 14.92 percent, Pulse Mash at 14.68 percent, and Pulse Masoor by 12.33 percent. On the other hand, there are huge price hikes observed in Ladies’ Sandals at 75.09 percent, Bananas at 30.96 percent, Pulse Moong at 26.90 percent, and Powdered Milk at 25.86 percent.

Other increases were that of Beef at 22.51 percent, Pulse Gram at 21.73 percent, and Vegetable Ghee at 16.12 percent.

Weekly CPI-based inflation also contracted by 0.09 percent, owing to the easing of the prices of Onions (5.59 percent), Tea Lipton (4.47 percent), Garlic (3.89 percent), and Tomatoes (3.60 percent). Out of 51 items, prices of 13 items increased, 20 items decreased, and 18 items stayed stable during the week.
