BEIJING (Kashmir English): Pakistani pine nut exports to China surpassed $18.78 million in 2024, according to official data.

According to the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), in 2024 China imported 981.64 tons of pine nuts from Pakistan, with a total value of $18.78 million, up from $8.22 million in 2023.

China turns out to be one of the largest markets for Pakistani pine nuts, accounting for 35% of the total $53.71 million worth of pine nuts imported by China in 2024.

Chief Executive of a food company in Hangzhou, Yar Muhammad Niaz told China Economic Net that Pakistani pine nuts have gained immense popularity in China due to their exceptional quality and taste.

He linked the rise in the pine nut sales to the widespread promotion of Pakistani produce on major e-commerce platforms.

Pakistani pine nuts are recognized worldwide for their rich flavour and clean texture, making them a loved preference for Chinese consumers.

Their growing presence of these pine nuts all through the Chinese New Year and different traditional festivals, including the Lantern competition, underscores the pine nut status as a symbol of health, prosperity, and longevity in Chinese culture.

Niaz further noted that the creamy, buttery flavour of Pakistani pine nuts complements festive sweets and snacks, whilst their top class packaging complements their attraction as a luxurious gift.

Rising export of pine nuts

The rising recognition of these pine nuts is a testament to the strengthening trade and cultural ties between Pakistan and China, in particular during those important celebrations.

Pakistan’s exports of sesame seeds to China also exceeded $226 million in 2024, marking a significant development in bilateral trade relations.

The export growth signifies the rising demand for Pakistani agricultural products in Chinese market.

The rise in exports in recent years can be attributed to several factors, including improved quality control measures, enhanced agricultural practices and the establishment of direct trade links between Pakistani farmers and the Chinese importers.
