LAHORE (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s women’s cricket team will begin a training camp here today in preparation for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier.
Mohammad Wasim in the capacity of Head coach will supervise the camp, with 19 players already selected by the national women’s selection committee.
As many as 33 players had participated in the first phase of the camp held in Faisalabad.
Leg-spinner Tuba Hassan has missed out due to a fractured finger, with all-rounder Nida Dar making a replacement.
ICC has announced the schedule for the qualifiers. Pakistan will kick off the campaign on April 9 against Ireland.
The selected players for the camp are: Aliya Riaz, Gul Feroza, Muneeba Ali (wicketkeeper), Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, Ghulam Fatima, Najia Alvi (wicketkeeper), Nashra Sandhu, Rameen Shamim, Sadia Iqbal, Natalia Pervaiz, Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Sidra Ameen, Sidra Nawaz (wicketkeeper), Syeda Aroob Shah, Tasmia Rubab, and Umm-e-Hani.
Six teams will compete for the final two spots in the upcoming Women’s World Cup scheduled to start on April 9 and continuing until April 19.
Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Stadium and Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will host all 15 matches in the round-robin tournament.
The two nations finishing top will reserve their berths in the upcoming Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 to be held in India in October and November this year.
Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, and West Indies are the four full members set to play the qualifier.
They will have to play the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025 after they failed to secure a direct place for the World Cup through the ICC Women’s Championship.
Thailand and Scotland will be the other two teams featuring in the qualifying matches.
South Africa, England, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and hosts India have already made it to the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 qualifying nations by finishing in the top six of the 10-team ICC Women’s Championship (2023-25).
