ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A fresh spell of rainfall is expected to begin across several parts of Pakistan from today, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy showers, especially in the upper regions of the country including Kashmir.
According to the Met Office, strong monsoon winds are expected to enter the upper areas of the country from today. These winds could bring heavy downpours to several regions including Kashmir.
The department has warned that under the influence of these monsoon winds, heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms may occur from Monday to Thursday in various areas of Kashmir, Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. There is also a risk of flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides in hilly regions due to these weather conditions.
In Azad Kashmir, the new spell of monsoon may start today and continue intermittently until Thursday. The forecast includes partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms and strong winds.
Punjab is also likely to receive similar weather conditions following intense heat and humidity. Cities like Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Murree, and the Galiyat region are expected to experience similar weather conditions starting today.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts such as Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Buner, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and Waziristan may also receive rainfall. In Gilgit-Baltistan, areas like Babusar and other upper regions are at risk of landslides due to rain.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Balochistan from tonight through July 31. In Sindh, rain is likely on Wednesday and Thursday, especially in Karachi, Thatta, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mithi, and Badin.
Over the past 24 hours, scattered rain was recorded in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Dir received 14 mm, Malam Jabba 2 mm, and Babusar 1 mm.
The highest temperature in the country today was recorded at 45°C in Dadu and Dalbandin, followed by 44°C in Nokundi.
