ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a significant move towards quicker and convenient travel, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has finalized the design process of the long-awaited biometric E-Gates Project to institute automated immigration at the nation’s busiest airports.

As per the scheme, 100 e-gates will be set up at Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi international airports, allowing passengers to pass through immigration in a few seconds via a biometric system integrated with e-passports.

The initiative, said officials, will eliminate waiting in long lines and decrease waiting times, providing safer and more efficient processing for millions of passengers annually.

The design process was completed following prolonged consultative sessions with the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, NADRA, and other stakeholders, with global experts providing inputs.

German consultancy company M2P Consulting will now develop detailed technical studies and tender documents to invite bids from top international companies.

Once the tender process is over, installation will start, integrating Pakistan’s three major international airports into the international network of smart, technologically equipped terminals.

Institutions stated that the project supports PAA’s vision to make the airports modern with cutting-edge technology to make them more secure as well as convenient for passengers.
