ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan has received a cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Qatar, according to media reports.
A second LNG cargo from Qatar for the month of October has arrived in Pakistan, and the supply of gas from this shipment into the system has already commenced.
Ministry of Energy stated that, so far in October, two LNG cargoes have been received from Qatar.
According to the Ministry of Energy, every effort is being made to avoid purchasing expensive ‘spot’ LNG cargoes; the cost of Qatari cargoes procured under long-term agreements is half that of spot market cargoes.
Ministry of Energy sources further noted that the cost of gas from the Qatari cargoes, under the existing agreement, is between $14 and $15, whereas the price of gas in the spot market reaches up to $30 per MMBtu.
Earlier, Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices in Lahore surged to Rs580 per kilogram, placing an additional financial burden on consumers already struggling with rising household expenses.
According to market reports, LPG is currently being sold at prices ranging from Rs550 to Rs580 per kilogram, significantly higher than the official rate of Rs279.34 per kilogram set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
The substantial difference between the official price and market rates has raised concerns among consumers, who are being forced to pay considerably more to meet their daily cooking needs.
