LAHORE (Kashmir English): Pakistan Railways has officially announced 50% concession on train tickets for the spouses of journalists across the country.
The decision, approved by the CEO/Senior General Manager and facilitated by the Chief Commercial Manager, allows eligible spouses to avail of a 50% discount on ten single journeys across all train classes, except Green Line (5Up/6Dn), Pak Business (33Up/34Dn), and Shah Hussain Express (43Up/44Dn).
The concession is applicable upon presentation of the required documents. Pakistan Railways officials thanked Federal Minister for Railways, Hanif Abbasi, for supporting the initiative.
The notification, referenced as CCM Office Letter No. 2-M&R/7000-R/2015, has been circulated to divisional superintendents in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Sukkur, Karachi, and Quetta for implementation.
The move underscores Pakistan Railways’ commitment to supporting media professionals and their families while promoting accessibility to safe and affordable travel.
Spouses who meet the requirements should reach out to nearby railway stations to learn about the discount and use it for their travel needs.
Fares Unchanged For Other Commuters
Earlier, the Pakistan Railways said that the fares of trains would not increase, a day after a historic increase in petroleum product prices.
In a statement, the Railways Ministry said that the government has decided to bear the impact of the diesel price hike.
“A 30% increase in train fares had become unavoidable to cover operational costs,” it said.
However, the Prime Minister has directed Pakistan Railways not to increase fares for any class, according to the Pakistan Railways.
It said that no fares will be increased for any class, including Economy and AC classes. To facilitate the business community, no increase will be made in the fares of freight trains either, it added.
The statement said, “the government has taken on an additional burden of Rs6 billion until June 30.”
