KARACHI (Kashmir English): Pakistan has decided to allow Matric Arts students to pursue careers in medicine, and engineering in a major education shift.
The Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) allowed Matric Arts group students across the country to gain admission to Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering groups at the intermediate level.
According to the IBCC spokesperson, this decision was unanimously made at the 183rd meeting held in Karachi on December 4 and 5, 2025, after recommendations and consultations with all stakeholders.
Pakistan Medical and Dental Council also consulted
In this regard, the opinion of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Curriculum Council (NCC), and Provincial Curriculum Authorities were included.
The Director of IBCC has also issued a notification in this regard, according to which this policy will be implemented from the first annual SSC examinations of 2026.
According to the notification, admitting institutions should arrange for a minimum marks limit and placement tests to meet merit requirements.
