ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan has extended its airspace ban on Indian-registered aircraft for another month, continuing restrictions that were first imposed in April 2025. The decision was confirmed through a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority.

The airspace ban will now remain in effect until June 24, 2025. It applies to all Indian aircraft, including commercial, cargo, and military planes that are registered, leased, owned, or operated by Indian entities. Pakistani authorities have cited national security concerns amid ongoing tensions between the two neighboring countries.

This is the third extension of the airspace ban since it was first introduced on April 24, following heightened tensions after the Pahalgam incident in Indian-administered Kashmir. The move is seen as part of a broader diplomatic and military standoff that has caused disruptions in regional travel and trade.

These flights are now being rerouted through Chinese airspace, which has led to longer travel times and increased fuel costs.

The airspace ban has affected Indian carriers like Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, forcing them to use longer alternative routes for flights to the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. According to aviation experts, this has led to significant financial losses for Indian airlines, amounting to millions in extra operational costs.

Aviation authorities in Pakistan say the airspace ban will be reviewed again near the end of the new deadline. Until then, all previous restrictions will remain in place.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not released a new statement regarding the extension, but officials suggest the ban is likely to continue if diplomatic relations do not improve. Pakistan has urged India to de-escalate tensions and avoid actions that could further impact regional peace and stability.
