BEIJING (Kashmir English): Pakistan and China have agreed to work more closely together in the media sector to fight against fake news and promote accurate information. This step comes as part of a growing strategic partnership between the two countries, aiming to improve communication and cultural ties through stronger media collaboration.

During a recent meeting in Beijing, Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, and China’s Vice Minister of National Radio and Television Administration, Cao Shumin, discussed ways to enhance Pakistan-China media cooperation. Both sides agreed that misinformation and disinformation pose serious threats and must be addressed through shared efforts.

Under the new understanding, Pakistan Television (PTV), Radio Pakistan, and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) will increase collaboration with Chinese outlets like China Central Television (CCTV). This Pakistan-China media cooperation will involve sharing of news content, co-produced documentaries, technical training, and live TV broadcasts.

A key part of the agreement also includes running cultural and educational programs. Chinese shows dubbed in Urdu will be aired in Pakistan to build a deeper cultural connection. In return, Pakistani media content will be promoted in China. The countries also plan to launch digital influencer exchange programs to increase people-to-people engagement.

According to officials, Pakistan-China media cooperation will help counter “digital terrorism” and fake news, especially on social media platforms. Both nations stressed the need for credible and fact-based reporting to maintain peace and public trust.

This joint media effort also supports long-standing projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. By aligning their media strategies, both countries hope to protect these initiatives from negative propaganda and promote their benefits to the public.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said this move will strengthen mutual understanding and allow both nations to “tell their stories with truth and clarity.” He emphasized that the media plays a powerful role in shaping public opinion, and this cooperation will help ensure that role is used responsibly.

This agreement marks a major step forward in Pakistan-China media cooperation, reflecting the deepening bond between the two allies across multiple sectors.
