COLOMBO (Kashmir English): The 19th match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which was scheduled to be played between Pakistan and New Zealand at the Premadasa Stadium on Saturday, was called off due to rain.
The cancellation of the match has secured a place in the semi-finals for South Africa, who are only behind Australia with 8 points from 5 matches.
Pak W vs NZ W Match
Moreover, in the match being played today, the Pakistani team, batting first after the toss, scored 92 runs for 5 wickets in 25 overs when another rain stopped the play, which eventually led to the end of the match.
Experienced all-rounder Alia Riaz top-scored for Pakistan with 28 runs and was not out. Apart from them, only Moniba Ali (22) and Natalia Parvez (10) could reach double figures.
In New Zealand’s bowling, Lea Tahuhu took two wickets, while Jess Kerr, Amelia Kerr, and Eden Carson took one wicket each.
Points Table
Since there was no reserve day for the league stage matches, both teams were awarded one point each.
As a result, Pakistan remains at the bottom of the points table with two points from five matches, while New Zealand is fifth with four points.
Interestingly, despite the cancellation of the match, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals have not been completely lost.
The team led by Fatima Sana can win their remaining two matches to earn a maximum of six points, but for this, the results of the other matches will have to go in their favour.
Pakistan’s next match will be against South Africa on Tuesday at the same venue, while New Zealand will face hosts India on Thursday at the Dr. DY Patel Sports Academy in Mumbai.
