MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Around nine shopkeepers were arrested for overpricing and unlawfull profiteering in Muzaffarabad during the fifth day of Ramadan on March 3.

Assistant Commissioner Rural Muzaffarabad Hamad Bashir along with Additional SHO Saddar visited several areas in Muzaffarabad, resulting in the arrest of nine shopkeepers and seizure of their stalls for encroachment and overpricing.

The admisnation conducted the grand operaiton against illegal encroachments and profiteering in various areas of inner city including Naluchi, Gojra, Tali Mandi, and Chehla Bazaar.

On the occasion, the Assistant Commissioner Rural said that no one will be allowed to indulge in overselling and encroachment, and strict action will be taken against violators.

Apart from that, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority has been launched a campaign at all entry points of city to check food items during Ramadan.

On the instructions of Secretary Food Authority Abdul Hameed Kiyani, a team of AJK Food Authority under the suprevsion of District Food Controller Abrar Ahmed Mir has set up a checkpoint at Kohala check post and checked various food delivery vehicles.

During the inspection, a huge quantity of substandard oil, ghee, papad, eggs, meat, fish, and other food items were seized, and the vehicle owners were fined, whearase, the items were destroyed on the spot.

District Food Controller Muzaffarabad Abrar Ahmed Mir said that the public can file complaints on the Food Authority’s number 1280.
