MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The AJK Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has announced a significant development in their negotiations with the government ahead of the September 29 strike call.
According to the committee’s spokesperson, the government has agreed to implement the demands that were pending after the December 8 agreement.
In total, the action committee has presented the government with a 38-point charter of demands. Initially, there were 12-point demands, and the committee gave the government a deadline until June 8 to address them.
The government committee has now accepted the original demands from December. However, the outstanding 26 points have been presented, and further discussions are underway.
The Awami Action Committee had given a state-wide strike call for September 29, but the impact of this call remains to be seen in light of the recent developments.
Earlier, the formal negotiations between the AJK government and the Joint Awami Action Committee were started in Muzaffarabad, along with the presence of a two-member delegation of federal ministers.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a committee consisting of the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan, Ameer Muqam, and the Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.
The committee was tasked to interact with negotiation committees from both sides and assist in resolving the impending issues amicably and peacefully.
