ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for September 25 to 30, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and possible flooding in upper parts of the country.
According to the NDMA, rain is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad, with the westerly weather system likely to intensify on September 25 and 26.
The authority warned of flash floods in mountainous areas and seasonal streams, particularly in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Heavy rainfall may also cause urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Murree, Galyat and several cities of Punjab, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sargodha.
The NDMA has directed relevant departments to keep emergency teams and essential resources ready in vulnerable areas and continuously monitor rainfall and water channels.
The public has been advised to avoid crossing seasonal streams, mountain torrents and flooded roads and to take necessary precautions in low-lying areas.
