ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert regarding monsoon rains and potential floods in various parts of the country including Azad Kashmir over the next 3 to 4 days.
According to the NDMA alert, heavy rains are expected in Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, Potohar, northern and central Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa from June 29 to July 5.
As a result of the potential rains, there is a risk of floods in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, and Kohat.
Flash floods in AJK streams
The NDMA warned that there is a risk of flash floods in the streams and nullahs of Hazara, Malakand, Azad Kashmir, and Pir Panjal, and landslides in mountainous areas.
The water flow in the Kabul River, Swat River, and the associated streams and nullahs of Chitral and Hunza may increase.
The alert stated that heavy rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock, and Chakwal, while torrential rain is anticipated in Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, and Lahore.
Similarly, due to rain, there is a possibility of flooding in the low-lying areas of Faisalabad and Sargodha divisions.
The alert stated that from July 2 to 5, the risk of floods has increased in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Badin due to heavy rains.
Citizens have been advised to stay away from weak constructions, mud walls, electricity poles, and billboards during rain and strong winds.
The NDMA stated that visibility may also decrease during dust storms and storms, which causes accidents and has advised to be careful.
The NDMA has issued instructions to all relevant departments to ensure advance measures to deal with any possible emergency.
