National Games conclude with Pakistan Army’s clear dominance, AJK performs poorly

KARACHI (Kashmir English): The 35th National Games, hosted by Sindh, concluded with defending champions Pakistan Army’s clear dominance.

Pakistan Army successfully defended its title, winning the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy for the 30th consecutive time.

The Azad Kashmir contingent in the National Games could not win any gold or silver medals, and their journey ended with only 7 bronze medals.

The closing ceremony will be held on Saturday (today) at the National Stadium, featuring a march past of players and officials from the 14 contingents participating in the Games.

Afterwards, the conclusion of the Games will be announced in a traditional manner. A colourful ceremony will also be held on this occasion, and fireworks will be arranged.

Pakistan WAPDA remained the runner-up in the Games this year, while Pakistan Navy secured the third position.

AJK’s poor show at National Games

The 210-member contingent from Azad Kashmir participated in the National Games and could only win 7 bronze medals.

A total of 14 contingents participated in 32 sports across 26 venues in Karachi, hosted by Sindh after 18 years.

These included seven departmental organizations: defending champions Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, PAF, WAPDA, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Police, and Pakistan Railways. The four provinces host Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the federal capital Islamabad also participated in the games.

Pakistan Army also proved its superiority in the baseball. It defeated WAPDA in the final and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa secured the third position. Pakistan Army succeeded in winning 12 medals in men’s and women’s boxing competitions.
