MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Muzaffarabad district administration on Friday approved the increase in fares of inter-city and intra-city transport by 40 percent, saying that the increase became unavoidable due to the rising fuel prices.
The development came a day after the federal government hiked the price of petrol to Rs458.40 per litre and that of high-speed diesel to Rs520.35 per litre, the highest-ever in history.
The decision to increase the transport fares was taken during the meeting of the Transport Association with Deputy Commissioner Munir Ahmed Qureshi and SSP Muzaffarabad Syed Riaz Haider Bukhari.
The meeting was held regarding the increase in fares in view of the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products.
“After mutual consultation in the meeting, it was decided to increase transport fares by 40 percent,” the statement issued after the meeting said.
The district administration has issued instructions to the transporters to ensure the immediate implementation of the new fares.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Muzaffarabad said that the increase in fares had become inevitable due to the rising fuel prices.
Keeping in mind the public convenience, the monitoring system will also be made more effective, he said.
