Muzaffarabad: Food Authority destroys unhealthy food stock

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority, in a major crackdown, destroyed KB Foods’ product Shaheen Slanty, for being sub-standard.

The action was taken by the Food Authority Muzaffarabad under the supervision of the District Food Controller Muzaffarabad in light of the laboratory reports.

According to details, the Food Authority Muzaffarabad had seized a large quantity of the substandard product “Shaheen Slanty” manufactured by the famous company KB Foods, which was declared sub-standard by laboratory, and sealed its warehouse. This stock was destroyed by burning.

It should be noted that according to the laboratory report, the said product was found to be injurious to health.

Food Authority also imposed fine

The Food Authority also imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 on the company to ensure the protection of public health and initiated further legal action under the Food Authority Act 2017.

On this occasion, District Food Controller Abrar Ahmed Mir, while talking to the media, said that the substandard stock of the famous company seized in light of laboratory reports directly affects the health of children.

The Food Authority has started special checking at schools and colleges canteens to protect children from substandard and unhealthy food items.

Especially snacks, papads, and toffees that children consume frequently will only be allowed for sale after strict scrutiny.

He said that no company that does not meet the standards set by the Food Authority or does not comply with the Food Authority Act 2017 and Pure Food Regulations will be allowed to do business under any circumstances.
