MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Muzaffarabad flyover has remained incomplete for five years due to mismanagement by the Public Works Department, causing severe traffic congestion, delays for schoolchildren and patients, and raising public frustration.

Officials who work at the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) capital earn salaries even though they have not resolved citizen complaints regarding the long-lasting delays of their single flyover project. The CMH flyover remains an unfinished project of the Public Works Department (PWD) that has endured five years of construction without reaching any set completion date. Reports indicate that the project will require an extra twelve months to complete its full operation.

Thousands of individuals such as students patients and people commuting each day encounter significant daily inconveniences because government departments have failed to maintain proper oversight of the site. Persistent traffic jams from the incomplete flyover caused emergency patients to miss hospital arrival deadlines during transported caseloads resulting in numerous deaths.

According to source information, the department decided to redesign the entire project which has been enduring problems for five years. The department plans to introduce these abrupt changes while creating fresh obstacles for community members in upcoming years. The department faces criticism for its inadequate planning abilities which resulted in neglecting public welfare during this decision.

The project’s civil engineering manager provided exclusive comments about CMH flyover development to Kashmir Digital. The engineer revealed that power poles standing in the construction space were the main factor behind the project’s extended time frame. The construction work experienced minimal progress until electricity poles were taken away from the site. He stated that since the electrical poles were successfully removed from the site his team has picked up the construction speed.

The engineer rejected the assertions as unfounded about the stated design alterations. “There is nothing realistic about the rumours of a revamp”. He claimed that such rumours were untrue.

Residents’ annoyance is still rising despite these guarantees because the flyover is still unfinished and a significant source of aggravation. The delay calls into doubt the effectiveness and dedication of the authorities in charge of Azad Kashmir’s infrastructure development, highlighting more general problems of poor management and a lack of accountability in public sector projects.
