MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Despite, the district administration efforts to effectively implement a fixed rate list, many citizens complained that the fruit and vegetable vendors were charging more, taking the advantage of the start of Ramadan to inflate prices.

Shopkeepers and citizens of Muzaffarabad, the capital city of Azad Kashmir, were left frustrated and perplexed about the high price of vegetables and fruits in the local market.

When inquired, the Assistant Commissioner Roll in this regard, he said that the rate list given by the district administration will be implemented 100 percent and action will be taken against anyone who violates it without discrimination

However,  traders complained that they had to import vegetables and fruits from other regions such as Mansehra and Rawalpindi, incurring losses, but still receiving complaints from citizens and the administration about high rates.

The scenario depicts the difficulties in price control in Ramadan, as demand for fresh produce increases during this period.

Since there are no local wholesale markets with lower prices, buyers have to rely on outside sources, which incurs higher prices.

It should be noted that the government has announced measures like Sasta Bazaar for Ramadan, as well as Ramadan packages have been arranged so that people can avoid hassle during this holy month.

Special complaints cells have been formed so that the government’s measures can be strictly implemented, and strict orders have been issued to the responsible officers. In case of non-implementation, action will be taken against these officers.
